The Foundation of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church
New Bethel M.B. Church was built in 1936 by Denkmann Lumber Company. The church was organized by Reverend Spann, Stewart, P. F. Parker, N. Jackson and West Jackson. Rev. Broxie Davis was the first Pastor from 1936 - 1937. The first Deacons were Willie Hodges, Eli Smith and George Washington, Sr. Frankie Washington was the first Church Clerk and Johnny Hall was the first Treasurer. Eli Smith was the first Sunday School Superintendent. Harriet Williams was president of the Missionary Society. Members of the counsel were Rev. J.W. Johnson, N.B. Jackson, W.M. Stewart, D.S. Spann and P.F. Parker. Since that time Rev. Harry Jones (1938), Rev. B. D. Rushing (1940 -1949), Rev. Otha Young (1950 – 1960) , Rev. Dr. R.B. Harris (1962 – 1993), Rev. Leroy Luckett (1993 – 1994) and Rev. JP Walker (1995-2020) have pastored New Bethel M.B. Church.
In 1967, the church sanctuary was renovated and an educational unit added. The cornerstone was laid on August 11, 1968. In May of 1980 a new sanctuary was dedicated. Since that time, the sanctuary has been renovated and the current sanctuary was dedicated on July 6, 2003.
In January 2018, Pastor Frederick B. Walker became the Executive Pastor to Pastor JP Walker. In December 2020, Pastor Frederick B. Walker became Senior Pastor of the New Bethel M.B. Church.
The church has experienced tremendous growth to include full time worship services, street ministries, ordaining of deacons, New Membership Orientation, Dr. R. B. Harris, Sr. Scholarship Fund, three (3) choirs, a Church Website, two (2) church buses, Transportation Ministry, Youth Ministry, Media Ministry, Community Outreach, Annual Church Picnic, Church trips, Back-to-School Rallies, Health screenings, Audio/Video enhancements and our newest addition, the New Bethel Educational Center that was dedicated in January of 2010. Our current membership roster includes over 200 members.
